Religious Monument Victory
ByToday (FEB 25/09) the Supreme Court ruled that the government can erect on public property whatever monument they so choose to display. This victory kept a monument contrary to our Judeo-Christian hertiage off of public property and protected a current display of the 10 Commandments.
This victory is good and bad. It is good that this time it protected the Judeo-Christian ethic of our nation and good that it gave local governments the right to decide what represents their community as “government speech.” However, it this turns. It also means a community could erect a statue of Budha or some other religious form of expression. So overall this is a victory, but one that may be used to promote other ideologies that our contrary to the religious heritage of our nation.
