Remembering 9/11

Posted by: Pastor Chris | Comments (0)

May we always remember the day of 9/11.  May we be encouaraged to pray and seek peace and may we always have the resolve to face terror head on.  May our nation be united and may our Nation be under God once more.  To me 9/11 is a call to all of us to be more patriotic.  It is a reminder of God’s calling upon our Nation to stand for liberty.  It was also a wake up call to remember the God of our forefathers and reclaim our purpose as a nation.  I pray that this 9/11 we not only remember those who where killed by terriorist, but we remember the heroes who serve freedom’s cause and that under God our nation with continue to promote freedom’s cause.

God Bless you and God Bless America.

Gossip is a Destroyer

Posted by: Pastor Chris | Comments (0)

Gossip…so many of us do it well knowig that Gossip is a destroyer.  For the purposes of this artiles I am not going to talk about slander which implies destroying a other person with malice intent.  I want to speak to conversations that may seem innocent on the surface becasue they are true.

Gossip can be and usually is truth.  We need to ask ourselves do I need to share this information and do I need to share it with the audience to which I am speaking too.  This is the golden rule to Gossip that may be truthful and not neccessarily harmful.  The reason I say this is because we will talk about others and about situation.  This is okay in the proper context, setting, and audience.

Now what about Gossip that is negative in nature that has the ability destroy a person, tear them down, or hurt their reputation.  Please understand this…anything of negative nature should NEVER be spoken to another who has no business knowing.  In most situations you should go directly to a person if you are having issues with them that are negative in nature.  In some rare situations the grievance may be so extreme that you need to go get help immediately, but this is rare. In all situations you should only share negative information with people who need to know and that you trust and that can help the situation along or give Godly advise.

Lastly, keep in mind that negative things will happen.  We as Christians are not to ignore such things.  There may be times when action is required to address a person or a situation.  However, in all of our words and actions we are to try to redeem the situation, which means to make it positive.  If all we do is spread negative talk about people and situation then we are not advancing the redeeming work of Christ in our lives, to others or to the situation we are facing.  Always think positive, approach things positively, and have the intent to change the situation for the good.  The situation or person may not change and negative things may come as a result; however, at least you will know you approach a situation in a godly manner.

So to make it clear…if you share negative information with another person or group just to tell them or has no business knowing is GOSSIP and it destroys and sows seeds of discord.  Let’s all try to advance God’s redeeming work in our speech…that is a lesson for all of us.

BROADMAN IS IN THE TOP 100

Posted by: Pastor Chris | Comments (0)

Greetings Family of God,

Recently Broadman Baptist Church was recognized by LifeWay (www.lifeway.com) as being one of the most effective VBS ministry’s in America.    Broadman’s VBS was in the top 100 churches in America among churches who have 100 or less in Sunday School on average.  WOW!!!  I am humbled and honored…as we all should be for the Glory of God.

Broadman has always worked hard at VBS and we have always had great success.  This is a huge pat on the back from God in my opinion for doing VBS with excellence every year.  It is a pat on the back from God for all those who have worked so hard.  This is really a big deal…it is a huge recognition from God.  We already knew we did VBS well, but to be recognized in the top 100 in the nation is a great motivation to continue to press on in the minsitry the Lord calls us to do.

I hope this encourages you…knowing that God has blessed our congregation.  Let’s always remember that everything we do is all about God.  He gets the glory.  Every child, every family, and this community witnessed the outpouring of God’s Spirit upon this place in 2007 and this past years VBS was even greater…2008 was a huge God thing like almost nothing I have witnessed in my life.  I still don’t know where all the people came from!!!  But I would assume that we will be recognized again for our accomplishments in the Lord in 2009.

Thank you Lord Jesus and thank you people of God at Broadman for serving Him,

PC
