Blessed New Year

Posted by: Pastor Chris | Comments (1)

I pray that every one will have a Blessed New Year.  May we learn to trust God more, may we walk in His ways, May we obey His voice and may we recieve His blessings in 2007.  Trus always leads to walking with God and walking with God leads to Obedience and Obedience produces the blessings of God…may this be found in 2007 for all of us.

I love you Broadman…thank you for allowing me to be your pastor and for walking this journey with me.  I look forward to taking up our crosses this year and following Christ…together in Christ “We are a CHurch that Makes a Difference!”

The Underdog!!!

Posted by: Pastor Chris | Comments (0)

Last night I watched the best football game I have ever seen in my entire life.  I stayed up to 1 a.m. to see its conclusion.  The game was Oklahoma University (OU) against Boise State.  OU was a big time favorite in this game.  I must admit that I was pulling for OU because I have my Master’s degree from OU.  But as the game went on I started to like the heart and soul of the Boise State Bronco’s.  No offense to OU fans and alumni…but I switched sides by halftime and by the end of the game I was supporting the Bronco’s fully.  There is something about an underdog that goes head to head with the giant and prevails.

During this game I saw the most dramatic finish to any game.  It ended in a tie and then overtime.  In the overtime it looked like OU was a shoe in.  The Bronco’s had to score.  It looked like they were beat and then the scored and went for two.  They were going for the victory…it was all or nothing.  They pulled out a play that will forever be in my memory.  A fake and then a hand off like I have never seen before.  The scored and won the game.

I guess David’s still do slay the Giants!!!!  What a game, what an illustration.  You are never down until the clock says 0:00 and the score is final.  Never give up people of God.  No matter what God is greater than any of your problems.  He is bigger that the biggest worry or burden.  God loves you and cares for you…being the underdog isn’t always bad…especially when we have God on our side!

A Call to Honor Christmas

Posted by: Pastor Chris | Comments (0)

Here was a writing I submitted to the local newspapers.  The article was to long for the editor to list, but I wanted to share it with you in its original form.  I will write an article in less than 300 words and it will be published.  So pray for the public article that God will use it.  May this article bless you….Christmas is an honorable thing and we Christians need to preserve it in our society!!!!

A CALL TO HONOR CHRISTMAS:

It seems that with each passing year more and more people lose touch with the true meaning of Christmas.  For years now I have witnessed Christ taken out of Christmas in all areas of our culture and public life.  I have watched Christmas change drastically in my lifetime for what I believe is for the worse, not for the better.  I have watched people declare that Christmas is offensive to them because of Christ.  I have seen people with good intentions try to make the Christmas season inclusive of everyone’s religion, ethnicity and culture.  The result is that we have abandoned the heritage of our country on this holiday and have made one of the most sacred of all holiday’s secular.

Let me demonstrate how far we have gone for the real meaning of Christmas.  This Christmas season I have gone to many public places that decided that it is best to say “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas” so that they do not offend anyone.  I went to an elementary Christmas musical at Tallmadge Middle School and heard some great music, but not a single song about the true story of Christmas.  Then I learned that some elementary students in Cuyahoga Falls are singing in a school musical “Joy to the World.”  However, the lyrics were changed to “Joy to the World our shopping is done” not “Joy to the World the Lord has come!” These are examples of how far we have strayed from the real Reason for the Season.  I cannot stay silent when the anti-Christmas movement has now entered my life, my community, my culture, and my world in such away that I am now offended…I believe it is time to say this has gone too far and enough is enough!  I believe it is time to bring back the traditions of Christmas that are a part of our American and Sacred Heritages.  I believe there are more people who want to hold to the traditions of Christmas than are against it.  If I am right I hope you will write the editor of the Falls Press, the school boards, the local businesses and our community leaders telling them that next year it is time to bring “CHRISTMAS” back!!!!!

To all who are offended by my comments, that is not my intent; however, I do not apologize for my comments because I believe that some traditions are worth fighting for and this is one of them.  For those that may accuse me of being insensitive to others or not appreciative of other beliefs, let me remind you that Christmas is the most inclusive holiday on the face of the earth, it is for everyone because Christmas is for all nations, peoples, cultures and languages – it is about “Emmanuel – God with us!”

As I conclude I want to say two things:  I hope our community will rally and demand Christmas be brought back to all aspects of life in our community and I want to wish all of Cuyahoga Falls a “Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year!”

Respectfully,

Chris McCombs
