Love Came To Town

Posted by: Pastor Chris | Comments (0)

Approximately 2000 years ago "LOVE" came to town. He came in the cold of the night. He came with no room in the inn for Him. He came with angels singing. He came with shepherds watching. He came with a giant star lighging the sky. Love came to town – Emmanuael – God is with us!

Born in Bethlehem, the smallest of towns, love took its first breath. Love became flesh. Love came for us! This Love is Jesus Christ! He was born to die for us! Manger was only a shadow of the cross!

"For God so loved the world He sent is one and only son (Jesus), that if we beleive in him we will not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

"While we were in the act of sinning, Christ died for us….Greater love has no man than to lay down his life for a friend."

Love came to town…praise the Lord!

Greetings to all the beloved in Christ,

This time of year is sooooo awesome! It is Christmas time! I love it!

I pray that this year has been blessed and that your Christmas is Christ-centered. The Christ-child reminds us of the hope that only God can bring us…"for unto us the city of David is born Christ the Lord!" Jesus is the Amazing Emmanuel – "God with Us!"

Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year Broadman, family and friends. I love you all!

The Chronicles of Narnia

Posted by: Pastor Chris | Comments (1)

Recently I read an article in the Akron Beacon Journal that totally slammed the movie "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – Chronciles of Narnia." It made the film out to be poorly produced and poorly directed etc. I already wanted to see the movie, but this actually made me want to see it more…so I did!

The movie was awesome! It was beautifully woven together. It was an excellent story. It told the story of the world of Narnia. It was well put together. The animated animals look so real. There were a few parts that the background scenes were fake…you could tell. But for the most part everythign look so real…you were actually in the land of Narnia.

From a Christians perspective the movie portrays a powerful message. It tells the story of our Savior in a powerful way. Yes, it is a fiction story…but it is loaded with parrallels to the Gospel Story! There were moments I was so taken and moved by the movie that I almost cried.

The final battle is superb. Awesome creatures and awesome warfare. It was done very tastefully. You new the battle was going on, but the violence was kept to a minimum…well done!

The witch was an awesome portrayal of evil. Superb acting on her part.

Overall this movie is worthy to be seen buy all ages. If you like fantasy and fiction this is appealing. If you like religion then there is somethign for you. If you simply like animation or battle scenes or good verses evil…then this movie is a winner.

I hope you will go see the movie. Narnia could simply entertain you…but it may lead you to the one true King – Jesus Christ!

Additionally – C.S. Lewis has written other books outside of the Chronicles of Narnia. I would encourage all to read "Mere Christianity" it will make you think…it is a very profound book.

God bless all! And Long Live the King – Jesus Christ!

THE YEAR OF THE BIBLE

Posted by: Pastor Chris | Comments (0)

Greetings Broadman Baptist,

The youth in 2006 will venture to discover the Bible. The youth have been challenged to read the Bible in a year. Yes, it will be difficult. Yes, it will be intense. Yes, it may not be the most excitable activity that youth could experience….but it just might change their lives forever. We beleive that "Faith" comes by hearing the Word of God! May these youth prove to study the Word of God and grown in faith.

To the youth my prayers are with you.

To the youth leaders my prayers and encouragement to lead the youth through this are with you.

To the parents my prayers are with you…we need your involvement if this is going to happen in your youth’s life! They need your involvement more than you will ever know.

Some practical issues: homework, school, social life, home life and other activities will draw your attention away from reading the Bible. There will be all kinds of excuses as to why this won’t work or why we cannot read the Bible in a year. But the reality is, if you want to, you can! It is a matter of priorities..it is a matter of faith.

I pray all of us will benefit from this adventure.

MY SPACE.COM

Posted by: Pastor Chris | Comments (0)

Recently my eyes have been open to an apparent dichotomy. Myspace.com is both good and bad…it all depends on its usage. I have checked some of the myspace.com pages of youth. The web designs, content, music, pictures, and dialogue are very revealing. I found supposed "Christian" kids using language to make a sailor blush. The content being passed down is worldly.

To parents…this was just another reason why we have to be involved with our kids. We have to know who they hang with, what they are doing on the internet etc. Kids are vulnerable and moldable. They rebel against rules, structure and order…but these are disciplines they need in their lives to ground them. They need to have you in their lives for their good. Yes, they may not like it…but it is your kid we are talking about. Myspace.com is only one avenue that seems harmless, but can be a poision.

Know what your youth are doing on the net!
