…….Women of the church meet every Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Charlotte Moore’s home (see Church Directory for address) for a Bible Study. The study which began September 1, 2009, is Living Beyond Yourself: Exploring the Fruit of the Spirit by Beth Moore.
…….Women attend events such as…WOMEN OF FAITH …conferences; testimonials from some who attended the 2009 WOMEN OF FAITH event are here.
Attending the Women of Faith conference is always a wonderful and inspiring experience. Each of the speakers present their life stories with humor, courage and humility. To be present in a room with thousands of women, one can only walk away knowing that we are all partners in this world, but have a particular partnership with God. One important lesson that I always walk away with is not to get down on yourself because I can’t do all things perfectly and not to beat myself up. I have come to realize that perfectionism is a sickness and Jesus is the Redeemer and I must rest in him. — Millie Castillo
I thought the Women of Faith weekend was great. I am looking forward to next year. It really makes you open up your eyes and use your real life stories to put more trust into our Great Lord. It’s a beauty to know that we aren’t the only people going through the struggles that a lot of us go through. I am so blessed to hear others. Again, I can’t wait for next year! Thank you Women of Faith. — Jennifer Jarosz
Women of Faith was an experience I really needed. I am still processing all the stuff they taught. There is so much wisdom from women who have been through a lot – so much joyous worship, so much victory over life’s painful events! The tools they provided will help me as I enter a new time in my life – going back to school, hoping to become God’s tool as a music therapist. I will never forget it. — Janie Lindsay
Women of Faith is a life changing experience. You have a chance relax and reflect about your life. You get a chance to worship, laugh, sing, spend time with friends and sisters in Christ; it is joyful and wonderful. I love Women of Faith. — Sharon Doney
Women of Faith was amazing in every way. We were able to fellowship with each other and enjoy wonderful speakers and music. My absolute favorite thing however was the music. From the Women of Faith praise team to Mandisa to Sandy Patty to Ayiesha Woods my heart never stopped singing. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercy never comes to an end. His compassion, His goodness and grace are unfailing, so we lift up our voices to honor Him.” — Heather Groetz
This year was my first year to attend Women of Faith, but it definitely will not be my last! It was truly a wonderful weekend. The speakers and the music were all excellent, well beyond what I had expected. To be in the presence of so many women, together singing praises to The King of Kings was very uplifting. The speakers told their stories and we laughed a lot, cried a little and each of us took away a little more understanding of how Christ can bring about A Grand New Day. — Joyce Lape
My experience with the Women of Faith conference was moving. A lot of what the Guest speakers said touched me, and help me to realize that even though I THOUGHT I had forgave and forgot a lot of issues from my past I really hadn’t, but now I am working on those issues again. The music was amazing!! I can’t wait till next September, I really hope we can all go again. I think every woman in the church ages 16-99 should definitely sign up for the Women of Faith conference next September. — Kris Parks
The Women of Faith conference was such a blessing. I’m so glad I went. I would recommend it to any woman…young or old. The speakers spoke so openly of hardships they have faced and how God has gotten them through it. It wasn’t easy to get through what they faced (each speaker had different hardships) but God gave them the strength to face it and deal with it. I am so glad we have a loving God who is always there for us no matter what hardships we face or what we go through. He is always there for us with open arms. — Melia Nichols
I knew Women of Faith was going to be special when I walked into the auditorium and felt the energy and anticipation. But I didn’t realize how unique and special it was until I looked down the row to my left, and then over my shoulder, and saw every woman in our group with their hands raised praising God with all their hearts. — Shawnetta McCombs
Wonderful, uplifting, inspiring, just awesome! I loved how the women spoke from their hearts, most giving testimonials of real happenings in their lives and how our wonderful Lord worked in those events. Some of my favorites were: (although all were great!) Sheila Walsh, Luci Swindoll, Marilyn Meberg and of course, Sandi Patty, who could forget that voice! Praise God! — Joyce Lakos

| History of WMU — Women’s Missionary Union |
Charlotte (Lottie) Moon felt God calling her to China and after the Baptist Foreign Mission Board gave their approval and the promise of help from her home church, Lottie sailed to China in 1873. After driving and viewing the task, she began to write for more missionaries. After four years in China, she came home and made plea after plea for more help. In a speech, she made this statement, “How long is the King’s business to go undone? How many millions more of souls are to pass into eternity without having heard the name of Jesus?” After many more appeals for help, the women of the South responded. In the meeting of Southern Baptist Convention in May 1888, the Woman’s Missionary Union was organized, setting forth their prayers to support missions. It was suggested that if at all possible, an offering be taken by Christmas to send to Lottie.
Women all through the states began giving small coins they had saved. When the final offering was counted, there was enough to not only send one missionary but two and more.
…..After several years in China with much success, the Boxer Rebellion came and with it plagues and famine. Food was scarce and Lottie gave her food to her starving Chinese friends. She became seriously ill and was placed on a ship to come home and when the ship docked in Kobe, Japan, Lottie Moon went home to Jesus, December 24, 1912.
The WMU mourned her passing and the Foreign Mission offering taken in 1913 was named in her honor. Lottie Moon Christmas offering for Foreign Missions.
Annie Walker Armstrong was born in 1850 in Baltimore, Maryland. She became a Christian at age 20 and began a lifelong journey of mission service including helping to form Woman’s Missionary Union and became its first corresponding secretary. She saw the needs of those in her community – the immigrants, the poor and the sick. She saw needs of those far from her – the African Americans and the Native Americans. She also saw the needs of missionaries serving these and other groups. Her heartbeat was for their work and she did all she could, letter writing to personal visits – to gain support for their ministries.
The first Home Mission Offering was given in 1895 and followed a week of self-denial for Home Missions. The offering was named in Annie Armstrong’s honor in 1934.
Annie’s life of sacrifice for the sake of telling others about Jesus is mirrored by modern day missionaries. Her work to gather prayer and financial support for mission work and her unfailing commitment to hands on mission service stand as a model for all Christians who seek to be on mission.
Southern Baptists are structured to be on missions together. Pooling our resources through the Cooperative Program and other mission offerings allows us to do more together than individually. Working through churches, associations, and state conventions, Southern Baptists are partnering to create a combined action in our mission efforts. Through the Mission Boards, Southern Baptists are affirming God’s call in the lives of our missionaries, sending them out strategically to share His message and supporting them through our prayers and gifts.
